Friday Oct. 4th 4-7pm Smithfield HS

Planning for Learning: Keeping the Instructional Focus on the Modes of Communication

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the role of proficiency and performance in the classroom and explore the implications for development of literacy skills in each mode of communication by creating lessons that result in mini instructional IPAs. Participants will consider a mindset for working with text so that learners are working harder than the teacher. Strategies for working with text in the interpretive, presentational and interpersonal modes will be modeled using a variety of texts with an emphasis on tasks that allow learners to acquire vocabulary and grammar in context.
