May Webinar: Putting Students In The Driver's Seat with Discovery Grammar

In the language classroom, we often want students to take ownership of their learning especially when it comes to grammar. This likely means asking students to discover new grammatical structures through authentic or teacher-written resources but that can prove to be a challenge.

In this webinar, we will examine that exact challenge.

We will examine what it means to teach grammar in context while focusing on several specific techniques that teachers can use to help guide students to uncover new structures. Teachers will leave with new ideas or tweeks to existing ideas to help put students in the driver's seat and make progress in their language abilities

Statement on the Executive Order Declaring English as the Official Language of the United States

As an organization dedicated to promoting language learning in Rhode Island and beyond, RIFLA recognizes the importance of multilingualism in education, business, and cultural exchange. The recent executive order declaring English as the official language of the United States does not change our commitment to supporting language learning for individuals of all backgrounds.

Languages connect us—to our heritage, to new opportunities, and to one another. While English serves as a unifying language for many in our country, the ability to communicate in multiple languages enhances global engagement, economic development and cultural understanding. We remain steadfast in our mission to provide resources and opportunities for individuals to learn and celebrate languages.

Our commitment to language education remains unchanged. We will continue to advocate for the benefits of multilingualism and ensure that students, professionals, and communities have access to the linguistic tools they need to thrive in an interconnected world.

We invite all language learners, educators, and supporters to join us in fostering a society that values and embraces linguistic diversity.
