RIFLA Foreign Language Student of the Year
Please encourage your better students to apply for the RIFLA Foreign Language Student of the Year award. The award will be presented to the winning student at the RIFLA Spring Dinner Meeting where the student and his/her parents will be guests of RIFLA. It is a very special moment for the winner and his/her family. Please use the application form on the following page (or make a copy of it) and make sure all documents have been sent along with the application on or before March 15, 2006. You are asked to select your best student and SUBMIT ONLY ONE APPLICATION PER SCHOOL.
1. The applicant’s foreign language teacher must be a current member of RIFLA.
2. The applicant must be a high school senior who is currently enrolled in the third year level or higher in his or her chosen language. Exceptions may be made in unusual circumstances.
1. The applicant must submit the following:
• the completed application form located on the following page
• one official transcript of grades
• two brief letters of recommendation, one from the applicant’s current foreign language teacher and one from another teacher
• the essay
2. Applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2006 and mailed to:

1. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their academic performance and interest in foreign language study as evidenced by their transcript, letters of recommendation, and the essay. A personal interview may be required of finalists.
2. A cash prize of $300.00 and a certificate will be presented to the winner at the RIFLA spring dinner meeting. In addition, a traveling plaque will be awarded to the recipient’s teacher for display in their school for the following year.
Each teacher who is entering a student in the competition should reproduce the application form on the following page.
